Ms. Kristina Alvera Contreras is an Associate Attorney in the Immigration Department at Latorre Law Firm. She handles Special Immigrant Department Juvenile Status (SIJS), U-Visa, and VAWA cases. She is a first-generation American from a multicultural family. Her maternal grandfather was a Chinese refugee who immigrated to Thailand. Her paternal grandfather was Apache and her grandmother was from Chihuahua, Mexico. She always had a passion for advocacy, and prior to law school volunteered as a Naturalization instructor at the Oxnard Mexican Consulate in her home state of California. This is where her passion became a calling and commitment to service through immigration law.
Ms. Contreras attended William Mitchell College of Law in Minnesota, where she worked as a Certified Student Attorney at the Immigration Law Center, focusing on Asylee and Refugee cases. She has experience in a wide range of immigration law issues, including family-and employment-based immigration; victims of a crime; asylum and refugee resettlement; naturalization and nationality; criminal-based immigration; arrest, detention, and removal.She has successfully litigated Deport and Removal cases at the Executive Office for Immigration Review in Immigration Court and shielded asylees and detainees from deportation.
Ms. Contreras speaks Spanish, and she is licensed to practice in Minnesota. She is a registered attorney with the Executive Office of Immigration Review and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and pending admission to the Colorado State Bar.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her cat, Micia.
