He earned a bachelor’s degree in Literature at the University of Colorado at Boulder, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He returned to the University of Colorado for law school, and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 2006.
In law school, Mr. Ballard participated in Moot Court, worked as a legal research assistant, and interned with the Public Defender’s Office. He also studied abroad in Poland during his last year of law school, where he worked with the refugee division of the United Nations (UNHCR).
Mr. Ballard began his career at a law firm in Denver, Colorado, practicing civil and corporate law. He later switched his focus to immigration law and worked in Europe for several years, helping clients obtain family, student, and tourist visas.
Mr. Ballard’s family is partially from Guanajuato, Mexico, which remains one of his favorite cities. He loves travelling and has visited around 80 countries and plans to visit them all, if given the chance. He has studied an array of languages, including Spanish, Russian, Polish, French, and Chinese. Mr. Ballard is fond of Eastern Europe. He has a Polish wife and a Russian cat, both of whom are world travelers.
